info
2010 was a phenomenal season for the EWR Bikes/ACG Eyes/Xertion Mountain Bike Racing Team. We competed in several racing series, performed demo’s and conducted skills clinics, and organized the unofficial “Kid’s Race World Championships” all while promoting the good word about living healthy, active lifestyles through cycling culture.
RACING
On the racing front, we once again were a force on the scene as well as a popular spot in the pits. The Mid-Atlantic Super Series consists of 18races spread across the major metropolitan areas in the eastern US. Several of the team members also attended national mountain bike races, and a few mountain bike festivals. The series consists of cross country and endurance disciplines, and is one of the most competitive in the country. At each event the EWR/ACG-Eyes/Xertion presence features our full and sponsor team pit-area comprised of tents, tables with sponsor product and information and bike display. We also provide free technical support to all riders. Focused on last years success, team rider and defending Masters Endurance Champion Craig Lander decided to step it up on his new EWR E-Motion29 Ti custom SS race bike by contesting the entire series on one gear against mostly geared competitors. Craig earned a phenomenal 2nd Place Overall ranking. Elite Team Captain Dan Bonora raced the Single Speed Open class, also gutting out tough rides against stacked fields to a 3rd Place Overall ranking.
One of our proudest moments was watching Category 3 team rider Bob Joos win the final event on his way to becoming the Cat. 3 Mid-Atlantic Super Series champion! In the Maryland State Championships, Jeremy Haag com finished a solid 5th place, while Jason D’Antonio was crowned State Champion. Dan Bonora won the overall Single Speed championship in the Bear Creek Series, as well. Throughout the season we captured numerous victories and top-5 placements, personal highs and ?? in our most successful season thus far.
CULTURE and ADVOCACY
The EWR/ACG-Eyes/Xertion team does its best to give back to the community. We proudly supported the and helped organize the Philadelphia Mountain Bike Association’s Rally in the Valley, a major fund- and awareness event for Wissahickon Park in Philadelphia, PA. We led the popular skills clinics and helping organize their largest fund raiser to date. Jay de Jesus also coached the PMBA instructional staff prior to the event, creating a detailed outline for their monthly skills clinics. At the Vermont Mountain Bike Festival, we were again a featured sponsor, conducting their skills clinics and assisting in the event. Perhaps our most proud moment, however, was our season ending and 2nd annual Kid’s Race World Championships, held at the Mid-Atlantic Super Series Championship Finale. We set up and organize one of the best Kid’s races in the country, creating a stand-alone course weaved throughout the team pit- and expo-area. With screaming spectators lining the course, full-PA announcing and lead-moto, the kid’s race provided real drama and a charming atmosphere with a focus upon the future. Every kid got a call-up, and every racer earned a medal and award.
And lets not forget our friends and family. Their support ranged from wake up calls, to handing a bottle to a racer on course, to driving their loved one several hours to watch the racer spend the day racing in the sun and rain. Some even brought their children and spouses to cheer on the racers. They were standing by while we spent the day racing our bikes in the sun, or slogging through the mud. Thanks very much for being there. It's the extended family of cycling that makes all of this so much fun!
These highlights are but a sample of our efforts to spread our love of the cycling lifestyle, and we could not have done it without the generous support of friends, family and sponsors like you. Thank you for your continued partnership with our team, and here’s to a positive and bright future for our community!
Here we celebrate all the racing results and podium spots that our team has acquired for the 2009 racing season. Thank you team for racing your hearts out!
And thank you to all of our sponsors for making this racing season possible.
